Last week, I impulsively redesigned my author logo when I was posting my YouTube video (insert shameless plug for my YouTube channel, and my new video here...)
This is my old logo that I've been using for a couple of years.
The logo isn't bad. I don't even mind the colors. In 2019, I used Canva's AI to design a business card. I think I tweaked it a little here and there, but when I was done, I was pretty happy with it.
I don't know why, but I loved the idea of my name being lowercase, and I enjoyed the tag line so much, I have used it so many places... and I have used something similar for the PROMGEN files (for a good reason, you'll discover this year).
The soft peach color of the background reminds me of a page of a book. I actually liked the subtleness of the color, and used it for my book Scattered Thoughts.
So if I liked this logo, why did I change it? Well, it all started with color...
Anyone who knows me, or has seen my room and closet recently will know that most of the things I own are all one color: mint/sage green.
If you have been watching my reels, tiktok's, etc, you have probably seen my sage green comforter in the background as well. I believe obsession is a good word to use for me and this color.
My obsession with this mint/sage green color isn't new though. If any of you have been following me long enough that you remember when I still used my Weebly site, you will probably recognize this banner:
If I love the color so much, why did I originally go with the peach instead of the green? I am not an expert in color theory/design by any means, but I knew that looking at my weebly site was really hard on my eyes. It was one thing to love the color in person, but I could not for the life of me replicate the color I loved on a computer screen. My attempts always produced a color that was too bright and harsh on my eyes, so I ended up hating it. So naturally, when I did my new site, and designed a logo, I avoided the color green.
As I was trying to brand my YouTube video the other night though, I realized I didn't love the logo as much as I thought I did in 2019. I went back to Canva and decided to just try to play with some green colors and see if I could come up with one I liked. After all, if I hated it, I already had the other logo saved.
Playing with color eventually led to playing with fonts, which led to wanting to create my own... and the next thing I knew, I had a new logo.
I opted for a darker muted sage green background, and a more vibrant green that shows up as darker for the logo.
My name got switched out for my signature (which has also been featured on the cover of Scattered Thoughts and the flap of L'ombre). I feel like using my signature gives the logo both a more personal and luxury feel. Since I am the person who does all of my own website design, social media management, promotion, etc, I felt the personal touch was nice.
Changing my logo has felt really good. Not only do I love the changes I made, and feel like it is more me, but I have also gotten some really good feedback from friends about what they think about it too.
I also think it will help my videos stand out, and be easily identified as an "Aly Kay Tibbitts" video on YouTube.
What do you think of my logo?
Any way, that's all I have for this week. Talk to you next Wednesday!
Aly
